If you are buying a Bidet Attachment or an Integrated Toilet (Toilet Bidet Combo) then you won't need to read this guide since bidet attachments are small and fit virtually every toilet and Integrated toilet means you are replacing your entire toilet. The rest of this guide is for buying a Bidet Seat

1 Piece Vs 2 Piece

The first thing we will need to determine is whether you have a 1 piece or 2 piece toilet. The vast majority of basic U.S. toilets are 2 piece toilets. A toilet where the bowl and the tank are two noticeably separate units is called a 2 piece toilet. A toilet that has the bowl and the tank seamlessly sculpted into one unit is called a 1 piece toilet.  See image below for reference:

2 Piece Toilets: You are in luck because virtually any bidet seat will fit your toilet. All you need to do next is determine whether you have an elongated or round bowl.

1 Piece Toilet: Your selection will be a bit more limited but there are still some bidet seats that may work for you. Typically if the tank meets the bowl at close to 90 degrees then most bidet seats will fit. If your tank is curved and meets the bowl at a slope (also known as a french curve) then it is unlikely that a bidet seat will work for your toilet. If you are not sure, contact us and we will have one of our experts determine which bidet seat will work for you.

Elongated Vs Round

The next step is to figure out which size of bidet seat you should purchase by figuring out if your toilet bowl shape is elongated or round. Even if your toilet bowl is round and you accidentally buy an elongated size bidet seat, it will still fit your toilet but the bidet seat will be hanging slightly off of the front of the toilet bowl. Most of the modern US toilet bowls are elongated in shape. Measure your toilet in inches according to the image below.

Bidet seat and toilet measurement fitment guide

Line A: Bidet seats need a minimum of 1.5" of clearance from the center of the toilet seat bolt holes, to the front of the toilet tank.

Line B: The distance between the centers of the bolts holes should be between 5" and 7.5"

Line C: Elongated bowls have a measurement greater than 18" from the center of the bolt holes to the front of the bowl.  Round bowls have a shorter measurement, usually between 16" and 17.5".

You don't need to be a "handyman" to install a bidet. In fact, its simple and doesn't require much time. Bidet attachments can be installed in less than 15 minutes and bidet seats under 30 minutes.

We will feature two installation videos from Brondell that show how to install bidet attachments and seats. While these installation videos are using brondell products, these videos can be used as guides to install any bidet seat or attachment.
